"Smokey Mountain, Manila "
It is incredible how postcards deliberately ignore the colors on this side of life, for instance, this mountain of garbage where flies and maggots thrive with soot blackened children, barefoot, never made it to any bookstore shelf. This is life though, perhaps worlds away from the sanitized water of a suburban faucet and years away from a decent meal, the flux is there nevertheless. Observe a family of scavengers dig into a pile of fresh deliveries from a garbage truck, how carefully the youngest part the dirt from a piece of leftover sandwich, and like an expectant crowd behind a debutante, they gasp and praise her first diamond ring. The flies are everywhere, the buzz actually stings. Wish you were here. Yours Marty © 2005 Marty Abuloc
